Monday Mashup: Cooling Jasmine Rose Tea

For today’s Monday Mashup, we opted for a refreshing floral combo of our fair trade organic Saigon Rose and Jasmine Green teas at a 1:1 ratio. In light of the 100º+ weather here in Austin, Texas, we made this mashup iced, and it was fantastic.

The premium tea blend is crisp and citrusy, with the lemongrass notes of Saigon Rose offering a palate-cleansing effect that’s truly perfect for summer. Golden in hue and bursting with flavor, Cooling Jasmine Rose can also be enjoyed as a delicious hot beverage, alone or with a hint of honey.

Loving Lady Lavender

We’ve proclaimed iced tea the beverage of the season; and this week, we’re all about Lady Lavender white tea, one of Zhi Tea’s premium summer specials. The subtle hint of sweet florals make this brew the perfect candidate for a refreshing organic beverage, tasty even without any added sweeteners.

Plus, lavender has that delightful cleansing feeling that we crave on these blistering hot afternoons. Did you know the word lavender comes from the Latin lavare, “to wash”? For a truly invigorating experience, this is truly a wonderful pick.

The tea is comprised solely of Oothu white tea and our organic and aromatic lavender flowers – no flavors added. The taste is light and simple, the perfect combination to cool you off and soothe your soul.

Monday Mashup: Mounds of Chai

Today marks Zhi Tea’s first documented mix and match experiment: the Monday Mashup. You can look forward to these creative premium tea combos and draw some inspiration for your own custom blends.

We were having a bit of a candy craving today, which became our inspiration for this week’s Monday Mashup. We mixed together our Coconut Chai and our Cacao Chai teas at about a 50/50 ratio to create what we’ve aptly named Mounds of Chai tea after the classic candy bar.

The refreshing blend marries our favorite dark chocolate and organic coconut flavors in a refreshing beverage that can be enjoyed alone or with organic milk and Fair Trade sugar for that true candy essence.

Try mixing the two at home to make an organic chai latte or a pure premium cup of tea, and let us know what you think! If you’ve mixed up other Zhi Teas and discovered the magic of blending, shoot us a suggestion for next week’s Monday Mashup, and your tea invention may be featured right here on the Zhi blog.

Tune in next Monday for another exciting Mashup and see what teas will join forces!

Why Drink Aged Oolong Tea?

If you are like many others, you may be wondering what the difference is between aged oolong tea and the regular kind. Well, like wine, some things just get better with age. This is something you can’t truly appreciate until you taste the smooth beverage on your lips for the first time. You will quickly understand why many tea connoisseurs will not even entertain the idea of drinking a tea that is not aged, because there is just no comparison.

What is So Special About Aged Oolong Tea?

If you think you are going to go into your local grocery store and pick up some aged oolong tea to impress your guests at your next dinner party, think again. This tea is rare, but well worth the effort of ordering it. It traditionally has an exotic and complex taste that is smooth and even pleasantly sweet.

Most oolongs that are being prepared for aging are first roasted to a specific degree to determine a moisture content that is acceptable to begin the storing process. Then, it is inspected every few years and re-roasted very carefully to remove any moisture, so flavors are retained. It is a lengthy and dedicated process, which is why the flavor gets better with age.

If you have tossed around the idea of finally trying an aged variety, you will discover firsthand why this tea is deemed more desirable.

Cold steeping kits for hot summer days

While National Iced Tea Month (June) has melted away, there’s no time like summer to keep sipping on the most refreshing beverage around. As Austin, Texas natives, we know no scorching afternoon is complete without an icy glass of premium Zhi Tea by our side as we lounge by the pool or seek shelter indoors.

Plus, this month marks the 61st anniversary of Alice in Wonderland’s original film release, and we’re thinking that’s as good of an excuse as any to throw a very merry unbirthday tea party with all your favorite organic iced brews and best buddies. So find your best party hat, and nab Zhi Tea’s cold steeping kit while the summer’s still hot.

Today, we’re sipping iced Fredericksburg Peach tea from mason jars in that oh-so-Texas style, but we’ve got four other options when we’re all peached out. The cold steeping kits come with Classic Black, Hibiscus Mint, White Blueberry, and Cherry Sencha too; we just can’t get enough of those summery flavors – what about you?
